Abstract: We reported a fatal case of brain abscess caused by Acrophialophora fusispora in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Identification of the fungus was based on microscopic morphology and sequence analyses of the internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) and 2 (ITS2) of ribosomal RNA gene from the isolate recovered from brain abscess. Four published cases were reviewed as well.
