A major challenge confronting the field in genetics of complex traits is the need for betterphenotypes, which are subject to age, sex, treatment effects and measurement errors. Methods havebeen used to deal non-normality when using vaiance component (Rotimi, Cooper Cao; et al.; 1999).This study proposed methods to adjust for measurement errors and treatment effects in estimatingheritability, with a possible application to further genetic analysis on complex traits. The data for this study was collected from Hakka population living in Chu-Dung and Tau-Yuan region in northwestern Taiwan. Probands were identified from 5 hospitals in the region. TheProbands were defined by the presence of young-onset (under 40 years old ) hypertension and byabsence secondary hypertension, diabetes mellitus. Sibpair design was the backbone of this study.Family members of a proband are invited for blood pressure screening and for a health check-up inorder to find sibpairs and proband-parent trios. Items such as height, weight, waist circumference, and blood pressures were measured.
