    Title: Common statistical problems in public health research articles

    Abstract: Objectives: To review the adequacy of the statistical methods employed by the articles submitted to Taiwan Journal of Public Health for publication. Methods: An Associate Editor responsible for statistical review provided expert comments on 40 articles received. Results: Shortcomings and suggested improvements are summarized with real examples according to (1) research design and instrument, (2) research conduct, (3) analysis of research data, and (4) presentation of results of statistical analyses. Conclusion: Statistical methods are valuable and indispensable tools in research on public health. From our study it can be concluded that researchers working with public health should adequately apply correct statistical methods.
