Background and Aims: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a relatively common and often fatal condition that primarily affects older males. AAA is characterized by chronic aortic wall inflammation and destruction of extracellular matrix (ECM) accompanied by depletion in medial vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Cysteine-rich protein2 (CRP2) is expressed in VSMCs and plays an important role in vascular remodeling; however, its role in AAA is not clear. Our goal is to investigate the role of CRP2 in AAA formation.
